Unrest

Unrest | Fall 2020
A field of objects presents itself as somewhat of a menagerie occurring in space and time. The lack of order in the defamiliarized grid is a symbol of the lack of order on May 4th, 1970 at Kent State University. A memorials programmatic function is to remember, reflect, or experience the same feelings, gestures, and experiences that the people on that day felt. Memorials that lack some sense of disruption to the current site also lack a sense of timelessness and their overall presence. Having moments of overlap between the objects that make up the grid and the pathways in which we walk, manifests a disruptive condition that provides a presence of the memorial, allowing it to be timeless.
